Information
Description
What It Is:
A hands-on phonics worksheet where students roll a die to generate words using ending consonant digraphs such as ash, itch, oth, aph, uch, and ick. Students then decide whether each created word is a real word or a nonsense word and circle their answer.
Why Use It:
Strengthens phonics decoding, digraph recognition, spelling patterns, and vocabulary skills. The dice element adds excitement and encourages repeated practice through play.
How to Use It:
• Roll a die to select the ending digraph.
• Add the digraph to the beginning letters on each line to make a word.
• Read the word aloud and decide if it is real or nonsense.
• Circle “Real” or “Nonsense” for each word.
• Optional: Have students write the real words in a separate list for extra practice.
Grade Suitability:
Best for Grades 1–2.
• First graders build digraph familiarity.
• Second graders strengthen decoding and spelling accuracy.
Target Users:
Great for teachers, reading interventionists, parents, tutors, homeschoolers, and small-group phonics instruction.
