Osmosis is the movement of solvent particles from a diluted solution into a concentrated solution over a semipermeable membrane. To dilute the concentrated solution and balance the concentration on either side of the membrane, the solvent moves. Diffusion is the movement of particles from a high-concentration area to a low-concentration area. The overall effect is to equalize focus across the board for the medium. Students are frequently asked to compare and contrast the two forms of transport or to describe the similarities and differences between osmosis and diffusion. If you are struggling with problems concerning diffusion and osmosis, please don’t be worried, we have prepared many amazing diffusion and osmosis worksheets for extra practice.
